If you are on a diet, you may be increasing your ketones which is usual. A “diet” is not appropriate for a diabetic. Sticking to a proper diet is essential. I assume you are a type II diabetic. Diabetes is complex. Type II’s usually must reduce weight but do so by reducing carbohydrates which are the prime movers of calories which need insulin to convert glucose to glycogin. Increase your lean proteins, decrease fats and carbohydrates and your lab results should improve.

Try Weight Watchers or follow the diets provided by the American Diabetics Association. These are safe diets and will result in better control of your diabetes.

The explanation is in your diet and what types and how much food your eating,,,,,without having that information it’s a difficult question to answer.

You say “when you go on diet”; does this mean you only go on diets when you feel so inclined? You must stick rigidly to your diet - even when you feel unwell e.g. flu etc.
You must eat at regular times EVERY day, if you are on insulin you must inject regularly, if on other medication e.g. Metformin you must take it regularly. You can lead a relatively normal life if you obey these simple rules. Have discipline, and be happy. I wish you well!
